Making a small room bigger than it appears

Here are a few tips to help maximise the space in your smaller rooms...

Storage - an obvious one perhaps, but getting the right storage can vastly help create the illusion of a bigger room. If you've got all your toiletries neatly hidden away the room will look spacious, and clutter free. We have various small vanity/basin units available at PHS MK to help when space is at a premium. Also consider wall storage, a glass shelf will provide a bigger floor area.

Mirrors - create a bigger feel to your room by having a big mirror. You can even double up with some extra storage space.

Light - Maximise any natural light you have coming into your bathroom and it will make the room appear bigger. If you don't have a window then look at other lighting methods, perhaps have an illuminated mirror some have light changing options so you can go from cool to warm white at the wave of a hand.

Colour scheme - use light and neutral tones to make your room look more spacious. This doesn't mean your room has to be boring, consider a statement tile to give it some life.

Clear glass - Clear glass, like open shelves, allows the eye to travel the full length of a room. Install clear glass doors around a shower or even a bath, if it’s within your budget.

Tile it - If you’re planning a bathroom renovation, choose large tiles over small ones. As great as small tiles are, the smaller the tile, the more grout lines there are, which visually breaks up the space instead of creating one long line. If possible, use the same tiles throughout the room.
